Small Hydropower (SHP) is widely recognized a clean and renewable source of energy, which is cost-effective and environmentally benign. The global climate crisis calls for urgent actions to cut emissions and realise carbon-neutrality, to which SHP has a significant role to play. However, the development of green SHP is challenged by complexities in minimizing SHP’s environmental impacts, boostering technical innovation, designing enabling institutions and adapting to climate change. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is proud to be implementing a project funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in partnership with the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) for upgrading the country’s SHP capacity while promoting the development of green SHP. To effectively disseminate knowledges gained under the project and facilitate meaningful exchange of international experiences, UNIDO is pleased to partner with the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES) to organize this international webinar on green SHP development.
